if you like Gimpshop maybe you can consider to use GimPhoto which based on newer version of GIMP rather than Gimpshop.

actually GimPhoto is GIMP 2.4 modification with new PS menu layout, packed with many great plugins, such as: separation, save for web, batch process, noise removal and photography filters, and also improved with new brushset, new gradientset, every aspect is tweaked to improve user usability.

I agree, taht Gimpshop is definitely worth a shot if you are looking for a familiar environment whose parameters you are comfortable working within, all while having a multitude of users working to hone and shape this program into a design behemoth.
