Hello,
Check this article by Tim Anderson. He starts to say that AIR isn’t useless however says “it is all a touch schizophrenic, and there are two separate AIR development kits, for HTML and for Flash. AIR actually includes two JavaScript engines, one in Flash and another in WebKit. Adobe has lost its focus and is trying to do too much in one product.”
He refers also as AIR weak points the following:
- no access to native libraries;
- weak printing;
- little integration with other applications beyond clipboard support;
- database access;
- web services, whereas other platforms have fast native drivers.;
Wow, Tim just see weak points in AIR and no benefits. Do you agree with what Tim Anderson says?
What Mike Chmabers should answer to him?
Brgds,
CP

I certainly disagree:
see comments here:

This one below was my personal favorite…unfortunately no comments allowed (boy would that one attract them too

Which not only was a jaw dropper but absolute confirmation that you can’t please all the people all the time. Oh well….congrats on shaking the coconuts out of the trees with such a strong platform

I may not really know what I’m talking about, but i think I hate AIR already. if the Kuler palette in illustrator is what i think it is – a Flash runtime embedded in illustrator – and this means its a glimpse of AIR – it’s a piece of trash.
Simple interaction with the Kuler palette is infuriating since the text input box for the kuler search is a Flash component. That means all the subtle things that work in a Windows textbox are poorly emulated by this shitty flash layer. For example, clicking and dragging to select text was buggy when the mouseup event took place outside of the kuler palette. Gimme a break .
