Tutorial – Animated favicons

As you browse the web, you’re sure to have noticed that many sites have their own bespoke icon in the address bar. Take a look at Google, Amazon or Wikipedia for examples. These are ‘favourites icons’ – so called because they also appear in your browser’s favourites menu when you bookmark a site.

It’s less well known that Firefox supports animated favourites icons. However, as is frustratingly common, Internet Explorer doesn’t support the same protocol. To get both static icons working alongside their animated siblings requires a bit of lateral thinking and a snippet of handy HTML. In this tutorial learn how to achieve it.
