FreeSpin 3D – A very promissory 3D Flash Component

FreeSpin 3D

Revolver has released in the last week, a Beta version of FreeSpin 3D which is completely free. This component is based on their OL3D technology. There are some good features i see in this component that worths to be mentioned, such as the ability to support in near future any 3d model (currently beta, just supports .3ds). The way that models are imported to the library, is also a good point, as it contributes to a faster application development. This component was made not only for developers but also to designers, as to implement 3D content into a flash movie, doesn’t means you will need to use any code on it, just depends on your needs or skills.

I liked what i’ve read and seen. It is definitely a component to bear in mind each time we want to produce 3d content within our flash projects.

I downloaded and tried. It was way too buggy for a beta release…more like alpha. It has to go to a server with your .3ds file to convert to their own proprietary format and only 2000 faces max, which hung and never converted. It hung when trying to import textures for .3ds file. The examples on the web site were very large file sizes. The one bright side was the interface design. It was graphically rich and easy to follow.

This will be a commercial component if/when it makes it out of beta. My own opinion is that I don’t see this catching on as a pay component but I wish them well in their efforts.

    Promissory Indeed

    It supports real-time texture change.
I do see it catch on especially with designers.
